Woodrow Robert Burbage

Woodrow Robert Burbage, of Aiken, entered into rest on August 29, 2026, at his home in Aiken. He was born on February 8, 1932, in Bath, South Carolina.

Mr. Burbage served his country in the United States Navy, and throughout his life he carried himself with the steady dedication of a man committed to both duty and hard work. He graduated from LBC High School, where he played football and baseball, and also played American Legion Baseball. He went on to build a long and accomplished career, retiring from DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. He then worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority for 28 years in Health Physics, before spending two years in South Africa training others to run nuclear facilities. While working in Tennessee, he attended the University of Tennessee. In 1990, he returned to Aiken County, where he made his home and was an active member of Corinth Baptist Church in New Ellenton.

He was an avid sportsman. He loved the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Volunteers football and also loved to fish.

Above all, Mr. Burbage treasured his family. He shared 72 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Elaine Woodward Burbage, who preceded him in death in 2024. He was also preceded in death by his son, Mark Burbage; by his parents, James Olin Burbage and Essie Busbee Burbage; and by his sisters, Pearl Posey, Odessa Corley, Florence Mundy, and Vera Booth.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his daughter, Paula Herrington and her husband Keith of Graniteville; his son, Robert Burbage of Ringold, GA; his grandchildren, Nathan McIntyre, Natalie Keller, Summer Groomes, and Brittany Burbage along with five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, September 2nd beginning at 10 o'clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 11 o'clock. The Rev. Jason Redd will officiate. Private inurnment will be held at Graniteville Cemetery
