AIKEN, SC - Willie Marie James, 86, passed away on June 22, 2017. Marie was the daughter of John William Hudspeth and Plumie Edna Jourdan. She was born in Chester, SC on January 3, 1931. She attended Chester County schools and help work in her aunt and uncle's store, "The Hub". She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1953 and was the 5th woman to graduate from USC in Engineering. She married Quince Palmage James, born in Gresham, Marion, SC. They were married on June 4, 1953. He is the son of Floyd Edward James and Elizabeth Jane Port, both of Marion, SC. She is survived by two daughters: Marie Annette James Gardner of Provo, UT and Nancy Elizabeth James Askew of Aiken, SC. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Ryan Castillo, David Castillo, Angela Fowles, Matthew Castillo, Neal Askew Jr., Natalie Askew and Nicole Askew and four great-grandchildren: McKade Castillo, Ella Castillo, Joseph Castillo, and Penny Fowles. Marie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many capacities including with the young children, youth, women, and family history. Marie was very talented in painting, ceramics, sewing, and other crafts. Viewing will be held at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home on Pine Log Road in Aiken, SC on June 24, 2017 from 10am-12. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, SC after the viewing at 4pm. Donations can be made to the Savannah River Cancer Foundation, (www.can-hope.org).
