It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Willie (Bill) Admer Hardy Jr., who departed this world on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the age of 94. A loving husband, devoted stepfather, brother, and uncle, Bill passed away peacefully at his residence in Aiken, SC.
Bill was born on June 30, 1931, on Emmett Street in Augusta, GA, to the late Willie Admer Hardy Sr. and Lilly Hortense Corley Hardy. He was preceded in death by his cherished first wife, Arleen Hardy.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Waller Hardy, with whom he shared 28 wonderful years filled with happiness. He leaves behind a family who adored him, including his brother, Jimmy Hardy, and sister-in-law, Carolyn, of North Augusta, SC; nephews Barry (Kim) Hardy and Keith (Drenda) Hardy; great-niece Maddie; great-nephews Will, Luke, and Brandon Hardy, all of North Augusta, SC; stepdaughter Dorothy Banks Willis of Washington, DC; and stepson Carlyle Scott Willis of Charleston, SC.
Bill honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War before eventually settling in Aiken, where he pursued a successful career in optical sales.
Beyond his professional life, Bill was a loyal friend, accomplished golfer, and true gentleman. Over the years, he was an active member of several golf courses across SC, including Palmetto Golf Club, Houndslake Country Club, Midland Valley, and Woodside Country Club. He was the proud winner of the 1990 South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) Senior Championship, along with many other local, state, and international tournaments. He was also a devoted fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers and the Atlanta Braves, rarely missing a game and steadfastly cheering on his teams through thick and thin.
Bill was a devoted member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, where he faithfully served as an usher and warmly greeted visitors whenever needed.
Known for his constant smile and unforgettable, hall-of-fame laugh, Bill taught many not only the game of golf but also how it reflected the game of life. He touched countless hearts with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He was deeply admired and will be greatly missed.
