William David Matthews

AIKEN, SC – WILLIAM DAVID MATTHEWS, 26, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

A life long resident of Aiken, Will was a son of Tray Matthews and Cathy Vaughn Matthews. He was fun loving and a free-spirit. Will loved his friends and was always willing to help, even to his detriment. He was a former groundskeeper at Sage Valley Golf Club.

Survivors include his mother, Cathy; his father Tray Matthews (Debbie Graves), all of Aiken; his son, Grayson Dean Cloessner, Aiken; brother, SGT John Christopher Matthews, USMC (Paige Seemungal), Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa; nephew, Brayden; maternal grandparents, Alex and Patricia Vaughn, North Augusta. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Anne Vaughn and paternal grandparents, Dr. John C. and Betty Matthews.

A Celebration of Will’s Life will be Sunday afternoon, March 4^th at 3 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Paul Noe officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
