AIKEN, SC - William Dantzler “Bill” Barton, age 89, passed away January 4, 2022 at NHC Nursing Facility in North Augusta. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Rogers Barton; parents, Donald Wightman and Mittie Lee Barton; and siblings Francis Whitman Barton (Sonny) and Bess Barton. He leaves behind 3 children Donna Eden (John), Danny Barton (Carol) and Roger Barton (Shari) as well as 8 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
He graduated from Aiken High School where he was a drum major in the AHS band and played the trumpet, and from Clemson University with a BS in Horticulture.
He served in the US Army in Fort Knox, Frankfort, Germany and completed 13 years in reserves as a Captain. He worked for 25 years at National Kaolin Clay Company and later began his landscape business assisting his wife Evelyn at Barton’s Flower Shop.
He enjoyed singing in the First Baptist Choir and loved woodworking.
The family would like to thank Caris Hospice and NHC Nursing home for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Aiken, Friday afternoon, January 7th at 3 o’clock. The service will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/662970761 . There will be no visitation due to the increase in Covid. Friends may contact the family through the Shellhouse Rivers Funeral Home guestbook.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project at PO Box 758516 in Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
