Willem van der Pauwert

Willem van der Pauwert, 79, passed away peacefully at home in Aiken, South Carolina, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. He was a cherished husband to Christina, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 50 years.

Born in Sneek, Friesland, Netherlands, Willem moved to the United States at age 19 to pursue higher education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Los Angeles, followed by a master’s degree from Cal State San Bernardino in 1997.

Willem dedicated his career to helping children through his work with Family and Children’s Services, where he progressed from intake coordinator to licensed clinical social worker. His passion for supporting children led to a significant role in reunification efforts with San Bernardino Family and Children’s Services before he later partnered in private practice with Fran Viero.

Willem’s faith was important to him, and he was an active member of Calvary Chapel, first in Redlands, California, and later in Aiken, South Carolina, following his retirement in 2019. He also enjoyed amateur photography and was known for his delightful sense of humor and love of joking with friends and family.

Willem is survived by his devoted wife, Christina, and their two daughters, Heidi and Heather. He leaves behind six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and three siblings.

A Celebration of Willem’s Life will be held Sunday afternoon, August 16, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel of Aiken.
