Wayne H. Powell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne H. Powell, beloved husband of Marcia P. Glover of New Ellenton, SC. Wayne departed this life on June 25, 2025 at his residence. 

He was born in Rosman, North Carolina to the late Manley E. Powell and Elsie Whitmire Powell.  After the loss of his mother, Wayne moved to Jackson, SC to live with his sister Ruby, and Homer Dodson, his brother in law.

Wayne was a heavy equipment mechanic for many years with Hyster and then with Barlow World which he retired from in 2008. His greatest enjoyment came from being outside working in the yard or spending time with any of the children or grandchildren. He was also a trustee for the New Ellenton Fire Department for many years.

Wayne was preceded in death by his sisters Ruby P. Dodson, Azeley P. Dodson, Avanel P. Butler and his brothers Looney Powell and Wendall Powell and our beloved Lula (Big Moma) Powell. He is survived by his wife Marcia, his step daughter Natasha Glover, a very cherished niece Dawn (Ricky) Foster, a very special nephew, Donald L. Dodson, his step granddaughter Kylei Glover, two very special great nieces, Brittany ( Corey ) Jones and Morgan ( Allen ) Bolton, great great nieces Emma Jones, Gail Bolton, great great nephews Conner, Corbin, Easton, Allen Jr., Jesse Key and Colbry Key, as well as many other numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his oldest brother, Austin Powell, of Central, SC.

Wayne, and as we fondly called him ”Honey” had a very deep love for family and friends, he was a true blessing to so many. He never hung up on a phone call without an I love you. He will be with us always for we all have loved him. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Ellenton Fire Department. 

In Honey’s memory, please give your loved ones a hug, and I love you and let them know how much they mean to you, he would want you to.

There will be a celebration of his life Thursday evening at 6pm in the chapel of Shellhouse-Rivers on Pine Log Road. 

Those who touch our lives will remain in our hearts forever, Honey your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
