Veronica Chapman Beckum, age 98, died peacefully at home after a long and beautiful life. She was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy Chapman and the wife of the late Lewis (Sonny) Beckum for 65 years.
Born and raised in England, Veronica came of age during the Second World War. She met Lewis in Alsace, Italy and their chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong partnership.
Veronica devoted herself to a distinguished career in nursing. She embodied all of the qualities of an exceptional nurse. Buffy Halter is a friend Veronica made through nursing who still came to visit most Fridays.
Veronica is survived by her beloved son, Matthew Beckum (Carole), her cherished grandchildren, Casey Beckum and Adam Beckum; and her dear niece, Sharon Gordon (Neil) with whom she shared a special bond. She is survived by her nephew Phillip Black and predeceased by other nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Veronica is predeceased by her sister Barbara Chapman and brother Michael Chapman (Sheila). Since their passing, Veronica continued to write and visit with Michael’s children Tony Chapman (Liza) and Jon Chapman (Jane) and remembers with love Joanna Bird, who preceded her in death.
Veronica’s family would like to thank her amazing caregivers Bernice Sweeney, April Brookes, Jeanie Jackson, Susan Hardin and Darcy Hammond-Ross. This group of exceptional women provided great care, love, compassion and comfort over the past year. Thank you for enriching Ronnie’s life so much.
Veronica was a fun-loving person who believed in Jesus and the message of salvation. She loved her family and friends and was a perfect example of a life well-lived.
