Thomas Lee Melton, 71, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, May 31, 2026, at his home in North Augusta, SC.
Born on December 23, 1954, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Thomas spent his early years in New Orleans beginning in 1963 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, Thomas moved to Slidell, Louisiana, in 1972, where he continued to build the foundation of his life. He earned a bachelor's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, equipping him for a successful career in sales. Thomas worked with Well's Dairy-makers of Blue Bunny Ice Cream before dedicating his efforts to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Thomas resided in North Augusta for the last three years. He became a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Aiken. His generosity extended to volunteering with the church’s Jack Meeks Memorial Ramp Ministry.
Beyond his professional and volunteer pursuits, Thomas had a passion for bass fishing, a hobby that brought him peace and joy. He was also musically gifted, playing tuba in the Aiken Concert and the Augusta Concert Bands.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Cynthia "Cindy" Haydel Melton, who stood by his side throughout their many years together. He is also lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sara Irvin (and her husband Jude) of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Elizabeth Melton of Slidell, Louisiana. His grandchildren, Connor Irvin, Kristen Melton-Graves, Shyanne Irvin, Chloe Andrews, Annalyse Irvin, Peyton Andrews, and Bennett Irvin, carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. Thomas also leaves behind his sisters, Tina Melton and Maggie Melton, both residing in Ardmore, Alabama.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Yu Vonne and Shirley Sims Melton.
