Mr. Thomas C. Lybrand passed to his Heavenly home the evening of June 24, 2023, at Aiken Regional Medical Center. Tommy, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was 73. Born in Aiken, SC, Tommy was a lifelong resident of his hometown.
He is survived by his dear and loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Lybrand. Also surviving him is his wonderful niece, who Tommy called his daughter, Sonya (Robert) Tucker, who has provided care, love and support through many years to both Tommy and his wife. Tommy was the oldest of five siblings and is survived by Robert (Sheryl) Lybrand; Susan (Ed Woods) Kelley; Donnie (Janet) Lybrand; and Charles (Debbie) Lybrand. He also is survived by his sister-in-law, Lynda Weaver.
Tommy was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Roberta Lybrand, of Aiken. Also, leaving before his death, was a very special nephew that he loved like a son, Jason Burleson. Tommy maintained a special relationship with both of his grandmothers, Lillie Belle Jackson Lybrand and Rosa Belle Horne Swearingen.
Tommy graduated from Aiken High School. He was drafted for the Vietnam War and served in the US Army. He worked for Chrysler Financial Services and then later retired from Bank of America. He attended the Redds Branch Baptist Church as a member. He was a devout Christian man and believed in his Lord, Jesus Christ.
He loved animals and was known for his deep affection for his dog, Chico, and his cat, Chloe, who both recently predeceased him. Tommy loved eating at the Waffle House where he enjoyed his coffee along with grits and eggs and a variety of food off their menu. When he was a younger man, Tommy loved to fish. While he had not ridden in recent years, Tommy enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle and his rides in the countryside. He was an avid computer and tv fan and he enjoyed building computers and installed many tv dish networks.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the Redds Branch Baptist Church in Aiken. Visitation will be 12 – 1 pm with funeral services at the church at 1 pm. Burial, with military honors, will be graveside in the church cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
