Therron Godfrey

AIKEN, SC – THERRON GODFREY, 88, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at The Place at Pepper Hill.

     Born in Cherokee County, AL, Therron was a son of the late William Robert and Gertrude Ellis Godfrey.  He lived in Cave Spring, GA growing up then Lindale, GA , West Point, GA, Morrilton, AR and finished his working career in Jefferson, GA.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea.  His career was in textile management, first at Lindale Mills, then West Point-Pepperell followed by Compton Mills and later Jefferson Mills.  He was a former president of the PTA at West Point City School, a Mason, member of Civitan International and was a former deacon at First Baptist Church in West Point.  Therron lived in Martinez, GA for a number of years before moving to Aiken in August, 2021.  He attended Journey Community Church in Evans, GA.

     Survivors include three daughters, Sherron Threlkeld, Vidalia, GA, Judy Rice (Gary), Cincinnati, OH, Lisa Bode (Randy), Aiken, SC; former wife of many years, Ruth Hopkins, Vidaila, GA; seven grandchildren, Ginny Horton (Alex), Allie Tillery (Jonathan), Lindsay Rice, Michael Rice (Jessica), Summer Hall, Haley Hall, Grant Hall; three great-grandchildren, Kai Rice, Zayn Rice, Hughes Horton.  In addition to his parents, Therron was preceded in death by his five siblings, Roland Godfrey, Doris Shaw, James Robert Godfrey, Leon Godfrey, Gayle Godfrey and a son-in-law, Hughes Threlkeld.

     The family will receive friends Tuesday morning, February 22^nd beginning at 9 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 10 o’clock in the funeral home chapel.  The Rev. Bobby Smith of Journey Community Church will officiate.  Interment with military honors will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC.
