AIKEN, SC – SUE ANNE MARKLAND JONES ELLIS, 84, passed away Friday morning, April 15, 2022 at her residence.
A native of Terre Haute, IN, Sue was a daughter of the late Francis Hughes Markland and Thelma Grace Schott Markland. Her mother died when she was 2 years old. Her father then married Mary Martha Kelley. Her father and stepmother moved the family to Aiken when she was 15 years old. Sue lived most of her life in Aiken. She was active in the community and was a founding member of the Aiken County Council on Aging. She was devoted member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church where she was a member of the choir. She was the first woman to umpire Dixie Youth Baseball in Aiken.
Survivors include five sons, David Jones (Natalie), Chip Jones (Jenny), Tony Jones, Sr. (Jeannie), Jeff Jones, Kelley Jones (Paula), all of Aiken; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren and her sister, Marcia Bolin (Larry), Avon, IN. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Miller, her husbands, Cliff Jones and John Ellis and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Jones.
A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, April 30th at 2:30 PM in St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with The Rev. Grant Wiseman officiating. The service will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/2069683 . Interment will be in the churchyard. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Stevenson McClelland Parrish House.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, 125 Pendleton St., SW, Aiken, SC 29801.
