AIKEN, SC - On September 9, 2024 Mr. Sheldon Paul Rideout passed away after a brief illness. He was born November 5, 1927 in Toronto, Ohio and graduated from Michigan College of Mining and Technology in Houghton, Michigan with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He received his graduate degree from Notre Dame. In 1947 he met and married Eleanor Mae Richards of Houghton, Michigan. They had six children, three boys and three girls. They were devoted parents who always put their family first. 

Sheldon went to work with DuPont and transferred to Aiken to help start the new Savannah River Plant in the 1950s. His civic work included spearheading the development of local Science Fairs in public schools, and he received a letter of appreciation from the President for his efforts to promote science. He was an active volunteer for programs involving his children. 

Sheldon was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken and served as a lay preacher at local rural churches. His strong faith was demonstrated through his actions and his devotion to his wife, his family, and his friends. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor and by a son, Patrick Allen Rideout. He is survived by five children: Sharon Louise Wagner (Jack), Jenny Ann Bodendorf (Fred), Paul Thomas Rideout (Dana), Michael Sheldon Rideout, and Sarah Jean Rideout. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Shellhouse Funeral Home, with an interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. A future celebration of life service date will be announced.
