SANDRA JAN McDONALD, 63, beloved wife of Ian R. McDonald, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026 in her home with her loving husband by her side. Born in Montreal, Canada, Sandra was a daughter of the late James Stevenson Wilson and Margaret Mathie Wilson. She spent several formative years in Kilbarchan, Ayrshire, Scotland before returning to Canada, where she earned her degree in Business Administration from Flemming College in Peterborough, Ontario.
Sandra's passion for horses and her dedication to the equestrian community defined much of her life. As a skilled equestrian, riding was her first passion and love. Sandra and Ian first met at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. In 2009, they relocated to Aiken, South Carolina, where they purchased a 22-acre farm. There, she operated a small boarding facility.
In 2024, Sandra received the honorary Ironmaster award from United State Equestrian Association (USEA) for her dedication and volunteering in 3-Day Eventing.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 40 years, Ian, is her brother, Fraser Wilson and his wife, Debbie of Ontario, Canada and three nieces, Chelsea, Ainsley and Brianna Wilson. In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded by her brother, Grant Wilson.
A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon, February 2nd at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Bill Howard III officiating.
