Ruth Elizabeth Morgan

September 6, 1933 — October 1, 2023

Aiken, SC

Ruth Elizabeth (Betty) Morgan was born September 6, 1933 in Patterson, Georgia. She was the daughter of Henry Joshua (Cap) and Allie Mae Griner. She married James Morris Morgan in 1953. Even though she always referred to South Georgia as her home, Aiken was her community for the past 70 years. Aiken is where she raised her girls, attended church, worked, nourished friendships and built her home.

Her advice was to love what you do and she did. She worked as a secretary and receptionist for two Aiken physicians, Dr. Robert Lipe and Dr. Ray B. Vaughters. She loved the people she worked with and the patients they cared for. She was a calming presence in an otherwise hectic environment. She cherished order.

Memorial Baptist was her church home. She sang joyfully in the choir for 70 years. She taught Children’s Sunday School, served on numerous committees and particularly loved serving on the Bereavement Committee. Her deep and abiding faith guided her until her death.

She had many lifelong friends whom she cherished. She loved beautiful table settings, linens, clothing and music. She enjoyed the sun’s warmth and her beautiful backyard while sitting and reading on her sunporch.

Betty Morgan loved her family very well. She was proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved snuggling with them and teaching them silly songs that she had learned as a child. Her family is grateful for her love and her wisdom. We will miss her and cherish her memory.

She is survived by her daughters, Marsha and Phil Jones, Carol Morgan Jerry Collins; grandchildren, Anna Jones, Chris Rouse, Desiree Wilkes, Morgan Collins, James O’Hare, Patrick & Shawna Collins; great grandchildren, Natalia and Jeremiah; nieces and nephews, Ida Strickland, Ruth and Van Steedley, Melanie Rooks, Jim and Mary Dixon, Wade Griner, Alfred and Janice Sweat, Sandy Ruffner, Tony Ruffner, Trent Ruffner, Selena Ruffner and Bobby Lee; and a sister in law, Mary Love Ruffner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Morris Morgan.
