Ron Vincent Skayhan, beloved husband and esteemed PGA teaching professional, passed away peacefully at home in Aiken, SC on June 21, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on April 2, 1960, Ron’s journey through life was marked by a passion for golf, particularly teaching it for over 30 years, and devotion to his family.

Ron was raised in Klamath Falls, Oregon, the son of Paul and Mary. He graduated from Marist Catholic High School in Eugene, Oregon and attended the University of Oregon where he played on the men’s golf team all four years until graduation.

Throughout his career, Ron was recognized as a leader in golf instruction and teaching technique. He held the position of Head Teaching Professional at the historic Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles, California, from 1998 until he retired in 2020. He and his wife, Sharon, settled in Aiken, SC to be closer to children and grandchildren on the east coast where he continued sharing his passion for golf by teaching at The Reserve Club at Woodside.

Ron's achievements within the world of golf are significant and enduring. As a PGA Teaching Professional, he reached the pinnacle of his field by playing in multiple Professional Championships, a few Majors and a few Champions Tour Majors, a testament to his skill and competitive spirit. He held several course records, reflecting his excellence and consistency as a player. Perhaps most notably, Ron was recognized as the Southern California PGA Player of the Year for three consecutive years, from 2001 to 2003.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Vernon, whose support and partnership were a cornerstone throughout the last 26 years. Also surviving are his daughter, Alison Skayhan (Sven Grossner); his son, Jake Skayhan (Kate Stromberg); stepson, Steffin Rangel along with two grandchildren, Lyra Ruth Skayhan and Leo Vince Skayhan and two step-grandchildren, Jordie Rangel and Billie Rangel. Additionally, Ron is survived by his sister, Susan and brother, Rick.

Ron Vincent Skayhan’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched as an instructor, mentor, friend, and family member.
