Roberta Vaughan Ferguson, 91, passed away on April 14, 2026, at White Oak Manor in Tryon, North Carolina.
Born on March 21, 1935, in Winchester, Tennessee, Roberta was a daughter of the late Charlie Luther and Bertha Florence Hughes Vaughan. She retired as an accountant from Norvell Fixture and Equipment Supply. She enriched her community through her active membership at Millbrook Baptist Church, where she was a former choir member and Sunday School teacher. Roberta’s commitment to creative pursuits was also evident through her involvement in the Painting and Porcelain Association of Augusta. Additionally, she participated in dramatic pursuits with the Diabetic Council of Aiken which helped fundraise for the non-profit. She remained an active participant in softball throughout her adult life and was the first woman to hit a homerun over the fence at Gregg Park Civic Center.
Roberta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe L. Ferguson, Jr., who passed away in 1986; her parents, Charlie Luther Vaughan and Bertha Florence Hughes Vaughan; sisters Pat Warren, Sybil McCurry, Ann Deal, Mickie Jenkins and brothers Ray Vaughan, Milton Vaughan, Billy Vaughan and Carl Vaughan. These beloved relatives now rest peacefully, reunited.
She is survived by her sons Joseph Daniel (Donna) of Tryon, NC; Michael Anthony (Melanie) of Duncan, SC; and James Phillip (Dina) of Aiken, SC; her loving sisters, Judy Couch of Mauldin, SC, and Linda Rae Thomas of Windsor, SC; four treasured grandchildren (Malia Hostetler (Cole) of Marietta, GA; Jamie Ferguson (Cory) of Moscow, ID; Stephen Ferguson of Grove Town, GA; and Peter Ferguson of Aiken, SC); two great grandchildren (Evan Hostetler and Rebecca Hostetler of Marietta, GA) and a host of dear friends and other family.
The family will receive friends Tuesday morning, April 21st beginning at 11:30 AM at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 12:30 PM with The Rev. Bill Howard III officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Millbrook Baptist Church, 223 South Aiken Blvd., Aiken, SC 29803.
