Robert Lee Steadman

Robert Lee Steadman, 79, lived a life full of love, laughter, hard work, and devotion to the people he loved most. Born on February 25, 1947, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Robert was raised in Williston, South Carolina, where he spent his formative years and built the foundation for the life he would go on to create. Later in life, he made his home in Aiken, South Carolina, where he built a life filled with family, friendships, meaningful work, and countless cherished memories.

On the afternoon of September 1, 2026, Robert passed peacefully, surrounded by the comfort and love of his family, after a long battle with cancer.

Robert was a 1966 graduate of Williston-Elko High School, where he enjoyed playing football, basketball and running track. He proudly served his country with two years in the National Guard, followed by six and a half years in the Army Reserves as a “Weekend Warrior.” He later attended Columbia Commercial College, where he completed his studies in Computer Programming in January 1968.

Robert began his career in insurance sales with Liberty Life Insurance, where he worked for several years before dedicating the next 33 years of his life to Anheuser-Busch, where his co-workers became family. During his career, he earned numerous awards and honors, including recognition as South Carolina Territorial Manager of the Year multiple times. Throughout those years, he built friendships and relationships that meant so much to him and became an important part of the life and legacy he leaves behind.

More than anything, Robert was a family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was the kind of man who would do anything he could for someone else. If there was a way he could help, Robert was there. His generous heart, his willingness to give of himself, and the way he consistently put others before himself are qualities that will never be forgotten.

Robert loved to hunt and, most of all, loved spending time with his family. It was often the simple moments that meant the most to him. Sundays will forever bring memories of NASCAR races and ice cream—one of the many little traditions that made life with Robert so special. The everyday moments, the over exaggerated and long winded hunting stories that were filled with laughter, are the memories his family will treasure most.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, James Earl Steadman; his mother, Virginia Goff Steadman; his brothers, Henry and Jimmy Steadman; and his sister, Shelby Coleman. Left to carry on his memory are his beloved wife of almost 57 years, Elaine Steadman; his daughter, Dana Steadman Boetsch (Eric); his son, Bobby Steadman (Jr.); his granddaughter, Madison Hall; his step-grandchildren, Hannah and Joseph Boetsch; his sister, Deborah Westbrook; his brother, Van Steadman (Barbara); along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Agape Care Group, for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Robert and family during his final days. Their presence and assistance brought comfort during a difficult time, and their care will always be remembered.

Today, we celebrate Robert—not only for the years he lived, but for the love he gave, the memories he created, and the countless lives he touched along the way. Though he will be deeply missed, Robert’s legacy will live on through the family he loved so dearly and through the countless memories they will carry in their hearts. His life was a gift to those who knew him, and his love will remain a part of them forever.

A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be Tuesday afternoon, September 8th from 4 until 6 o’clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home.
