Robert Clark Podewils (“Bob”) died peacefully on October 21, 2025, in Aiken, SC, at the age of 82 years. Bob is survived by his devoted daughter Lisa Podewils Korologos; his caring son John David Podewils; and his five treasured grandchildren, Jack Christopher Korologos, Lexi Joy Korologos, Samantha Olivia Podewils, Nicole Elizabeth Podewils, and Reilly Griffin Podewils. Bob was predeceased by his cherished wife, Susan Ellen Kinney Podewils (“Sue”), on February 26, 2016, at the age of 72 years, his younger brother, Richard Dailen Podewils on January 1, 2006, at the age of 58 years, and, recently, his beloved son, Robert Vernon Podewils, on October 19, 2025, at the age of 59 years.
Bob was born on August 16, 1943, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Robert Alexander Podewils and Jeanette Clark Podewils. Bob graduated from Monroe High School in St. Paul, MN in 1962. Bob married Sue, his high school sweetheart, in 1963. Over the next several years, as a successful commodities trader with Cargill, Inc., Bob and Sue moved between homes in Minnesota, California, and New York. Lisa and Robert were born in St. Paul, MN, and John was born in Sacramento, CA. When Bob retired, he and Sue moved down to Davidson, NC, to enjoy Lake Norman and NASCAR races. Next, they built their dream retirement home in the Cedar Creek community in Aiken, SC, where they made many dear friends. Bob could often be found on the golf course or at the Club.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bob lovingly cared for Sue during her over 20 years of health challenges. He became much closer to Lisa after he lost Sue and was very proud of her career as a federal criminal prosecutor. Bob loved Robert and spoke to him almost daily. Bob was also devoted to John and deeply appreciative of John’s care over the past few years. Bob’s softer side was most evident in his love of his cats over the years: Willie (named after Willie Nelson), Alexander, Allie, Daffodil, Suzie, and Mickey.
Lisa and John welcome friends of Sue and Bob to join them at the Feedsack in Aiken, SC to remember Bob and Sue from 4 to 7 pm on October 30, 2025. Bob will be laid to rest in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, along with Sue and his son Robert. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Friends of the Animals Shelter in Aiken, SC (www.fotasaiken.org) in Bob’s memory.
