Robert L. Kimmel

April 24, 1934 — August 13, 2022

Robert Kimmel, loving husband of Susan Kimmel passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2022 at the age of 88.

Born in Lima, Ohio, Bob was the Son of the late Donald and Mary Kimmel.  He was raised in Lima, Ohio.  After graduating high school in 1952, he was accepted at the General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan.  His General Motors career started when he began a co-op program with GMI and General Motors Corporation.  He received his Bachelor's Degree in Administration in 1956.

He married early in his career with General Motors and had a Son, Kevin and a Daughter, Karen with his first wife. 

During his tenure at General Motors, he married his second wife Susan Janssens.  They were married on November 16, 1979.

He had a long and rewarding career with General Motors in Personnel Management. Most of his 35 year career was spent at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.

After retiring from General Motors as Personnel Director for Engineering Staff in Warren, Michigan, he and his wife, Susan, moved to Callawassie Island, South Carolina in 1990.  He continued to work as a part time consultant for a Chrysler dealership in Beaufort, SC.  He was dedicated to help them maintain their five star rating.  Bob was a perfectionist and well respected.

He loved to golf and spent his golfing time competing in area tournaments and couples tournaments with his wife.  Bob taught Susan to golf and they played most of their golf together.  They moved to Aiken in 2000 where they made Aiken their retirement home.

Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Susan, of almost 43 years, his son, Kevin, and his wife Beverly and their family; his daughter, Karen Inger, and her husband, Glenn and their family; his step-son, Andy Janssens (Linda) and their son Andy; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his brother, David, and his wife, Kay, and their family.

It was Bob’s wishes not to have any funeral services.  It was also his wish to be cremated.  SHELLHOUSE-RIVERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 715 E. PINE LOG RD., AIKEN, SC, is making the arrangements. A private family graveside service is planned at a future date.
