Mr. Robert Clinton Haythorn, 91 years of age, died August 4, 2026 at home in Aiken, South Carolina.
A celebration of life service will be Saturday afternoon, August 8th at 3 o’clock held at St. John’s Methodist Church followed by a reception in Ward Hall.
Mr. Haythorn was an insurance underwriting executive with Great American Insurance Company and Old Guard Mutual Insurance Company, both located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Prior to his insurance career, Mr. Haythorn was a fighter-interceptor pilot with the US Air Force and held the rank of Captain at time of discharge.
Mr. Haythorn was active in community affairs most of his adult life with 20 years of service as a Hospital Auxiliary volunteer, board member, and president at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. He was a member of several committees including the City of Aiken Annexation Study Committee, and the General Aviation Commission where he served as chairman for 8 years. In 1996, he was appointed as a Deputy Coroner for Aiken County and in 2004, he was appointed by former Governor Mark Sanford as Interim Coroner for Aiken County following the death of Coroner Sue Townsend.
Survivors include his wife, Letitia Walter Haythorn, a daughter, Deborah (John) Haythorn McMurtrie of Aiken; four granddaughters, Caitlin (Lee) McMurtrie Scott of Greer, SC, Kelly (Stephen) McMurtrie Narron of Charlotte, NC, Lauren (Douglas) McMurtrie Walp of Aiken, and Lindsey (Matthew) McMurtrie Davis of Simi Valley, CA ; three sons, Mark (Jessica) Haythorn of Durham, NC; Christopher Henry of Harleysville, PA; Scott (Alice) Henry of Byron Center, MI; two grandsons Lukas Henry and Shon Henry of Byron Center, MI, two great grandsons Tristan Davis and Bowie Davis, and great granddaughter Felicity Davis of Simi Valley, CA: and great grandson Levi Scott and great granddaughter Kamryn Scott of Greer, SC.: great granddaughter Lilian Walp of Aiken.
