Robert “Bob” E. Hanvey, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024. Bob was born in McCormick, SC and was the son of Ernest Edward Hanvey and Ruth Link Hanvey.
Bob grew up in McCormick, SC where he graduated from high school and then attended Clemson University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and enlisted in the United States Air Force as a 2nd lieutenant in 1951. He served active duty in the Air Force until 1953, then entered the United States Air Force Reserves until he was honorably discharged as a Major in 1971. After active duty, Bob went to work for DuPont at the Savannah River Site as a Health Physics Inspector and then went into chemical production work at the plant.
Bob lived in Aiken for over 60 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was an extremely good father to his daughter and husband to his wife, both who he loved dearly. He loved people and was known for his kindness, generosity, and gentle sweet spirit. He had many friends in Aiken and loved to socialize and travel, but what he really loved was telling stories about his long journeys through life. He is deeply missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Janis Hanvey Campbell and her husband, Michael Campbell of Edisto Island, SC, his two grandchildren; Dylan Campbell (Brittany) of Arkansas and Sydney Campbell of New York. He had many nieces and nephews he loved with all his heart. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jean Young Hanvey, his sister, Ruth Hanvey Woodham and his two brothers, William Harold Hanvey and Ernest Alexander Hanvey.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday afternoon, February 20th at 1 o’clock at Aiken Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Lupus Foundation of America, https://www.lupus.org, or First Presbyterian Church, 224 Barnwell Ave. NW, Aiken, SC 29801
Janis would like to extend her special thanks to Connie Scott, RN for caring for Bob over the last 4 years and loving him as if he were her own father. In addition to Connie, there are too many fantastic people who loved and cared for him to name, and I have no idea what I would have done without them.
