Robert G. English

Robert G. English (Bob), age 92, of Aiken, South Carolina, formerly of Elloree, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at his home. Born in Anderson, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Grace McCallister English Polatty and John Waymon English. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Juanita Malone English, daughter, Darlene Patti English, and son,John Steven English, all of Aiken. He was predeceased by son, Robert Mark English and brother William Edward (Bill) English.

Bob grew up at Connie Maxwell, a children’s home, in Greenwood, South Carolina, from ages 7 until 18. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1951 and continued his education at Erskine, where he graduated in 1955. He joined the army in 1955 and was there until 1957. He later received his Master’s degree in Educational Administration from USC in 1960.

Bob’s career in education began as a teacher in Winnsboro, SC in 1957. In 1958, he moved his family to Cordova, SC. For the next six years, he worked at Edisto Schools as a teacher, head girls basketball coach, assistant football and baseball coach, and principal to K-12 grades. In 1964, he and his family moved to McCormick, where he served as high school principal for five years before moving to Swansea in 1969 as the superintendent of Lexington School District 4. He remained there for 20 years. His last job as superintendent was in Elloree where he retired in 1993.

Bob served as a church deacon for many years in McCormick, Swansea, and Elloree. He joined the Lions Club in 1968 and served as District Governor from 1997-1998. He was on the board for Connie Maxwell from 1989 – 1994.

A memorial service will be held at Shellhouse Funeral Home at 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken, SC. The service will be on November 29, 2025, at 3:00. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Connie MaxwellChildren’s Home.
