Robert Clinton Baker, Jr.

AIKEN, SC – ROBERT CLINTON BAKER, JR, 94, husband of the late Fern Shellenberger Baker, passed into the loving arms of God Monday evening, October 10, 2022 at Benton House of Aiken.

A native of Bloomsburg, PA, Robert was a son of the late Robert C, and Anna Hill Baker, Sr.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.  Robert had lived in Aiken since 1955.  He was a chemical engineer (wink) and retired from E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant.  He was a long-time member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church where his great love was serving the church and its community.

Survivors include his daughter, Lynn Baker Shepard, Aiken; three sons, Robert C. Penhaligon III, East Wenatchee, WA, Donald Eric Baker, Wagner, SC, John William Baker, Wagener, SC; grandchildren, Brian C. Owens, James Clinton Busbee, Elizabeth Anne Gradl (Travis), Eric Christopher Baker, Melissa Wendi Ouzts, Holly Amelia Baker Carson (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Jordan Owens Hamons, Brittany Noel Busbee, Haven Nicole Busbee, Corey Clayton, Grace Evelyn Ouzts, Waylon Gradl, Zoey Gradl, Sophia Faith Ouzts, James Russell Baker, Wyatt Baker, Adeline Carson, Thaddeus Carson; a great-great-grandson, Brayden Rex Hamons.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Oren A. Baker.

The family is thankful for the tenderness and loving care provided to their father and the family by the Benton House of Aiken and by Enhabit Hospice.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, October 17^th from 5 until 7 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Tuesday afternoon, October 18^th at 2 o’clock at South Aiken Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Jason Hammersley officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or South Aiken Presbyterian Church.
