Richard Anthony Noterman

April 25, 1929 — December 20, 2020

TRENTON, SC - Richard Anthony Noterman, age 91, of Trenton, SC, entered peacefully into the glory of heaven, Sunday December 20, 2020 at the home of his son, Brad and wife Janet.

Richard, “Papa”, formerly of Sun City West, AZ, was born in Woodstock Minnesota, the oldest son of Mathias H. Noterman and Ann Noterman. Richard married his one and only love, Arvella and together they raised three beautiful children, Bradley, Mary Lee and Jane Suzanne. Richard was an accomplished private pilot, using his skills for business and pleasure and enjoyed owning aircraft especially his Mooney Mark 20.

Residing in Minnesota till 1964, at age 36, he sold his Noterman Insurance Company and relocated his family to Southern California. There he enjoyed a career in Tax Preparation and Real Estate, and later was hired by the Federal Government as a claim adjuster for the Department of Federal Crop Insurance. In 1999, he officially retired and in 2003, he and his wife moved to Sun City West, AZ. After his dear wife died, he remained there, continuing cherished longtime friendships with neighbors. In January 2020, Richard moved to live with his son, Brad and wife Janet, in Trenton SC.

Truly “Papa” left a legacy of love and excellence wherever he was found to be. He loved Jesus, was a man of faith and was never known to say an unkind word or complaint. He had a great sense of humor and thoroughly enjoyed life and his family. Fishing in the summers in his home state of MN, laughter and adventures with his son, Brad including hunting and fishing trips to Alaska and Canada, sharing family holidays with his daughter, Mary Lee (Steve) in California.

When he visited SC, Brad and Janet’s church family at Millbrook Baptist and other friends received him with open arms. When he moved here permanently in January 2020, he was welcomed back, and a host of folks came out on his 91st birthday in April, complete with a drive through “birthday” parade, banners, signs, horns blowing! Truly a memorable day as he tipped his hat to them, displaying a smile that beamed from his happy heart...priceless.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Arvella, August 12, 2006, his youngest daughter, Jane Suzanne, at 53, in 2010. He also had a precious baby sister, Patricia Ann, who at age 6, died on Christmas eve, when he was just a young boy.

He is survived by his two children, Brad (Janet) Trenton SC, Mary Lee Noterman Swearingen (Steve), Corona, CA, sister Marjorie Lee Noterman Beane, Ava Maria, FL, John Noterman (Lynda), Jordan, MN, eight (8) grandchildren, thirteen (13) great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

There will be no services here in South Carolina, services will held at a later date in Albert Lea, Minnesota, where he will be laid to rest in Hayward Lutheran Cemetery, next to his wife.

Remembering him as Papa walked toward his bedroom each night, he would turn and say, “Thank you for a beautiful day or thank you for sharing your day.” All who knew him well, especially remember when saying goodbye he said, ”The Lord be with you always! ”

Now a thankful family that was honored to be his family say, “WE Thank YOU Papa, for a beautiful life that you led with the Lord, and you are now Him always. Well done!”
