PHILLIP M. HEWITT, 69, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 2, 2024 in the Bamberg/Barnwell Emergency Medical Center.

 

Born in Florence, SC, Phillip was a son of the late William Julius and Thelma Mae Stroud Hewitt.  He spent his childhood in Dillon, SC before moving to Aiken as a teenager.  He graduated from Aiken High School and lived most of his life in Aiken.  He retired from Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Co.  He was a selfless man always helping others, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

 

Surviving are his two sons, Matthew Hewitt (Katherine), C. J. Hewitt (Ali), all residing in Charleston; five grandchildren, Reese, Vivienne and Emma Hewitt, and Brooks and Hudson Hewitt; his brother, Billy Hewitt (Paula), Summerville; his sister, Carolyn (Sherwood) Marshall, Easley, SC.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Melody Walsh.

 

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, February 8th beginning at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.  A memorial service will follow at 2 o’clock. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Marine Toys for Tots.
