Philip A. Ring was born in New York City on August 30, 1936. He passed away peacefully at home after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family on June 20. Philip and Nancy would have celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on June 27.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy who were wed on June 27, 1959 and his children: Philip Jr. (Benya), Eugene, Richard (Barbara), Andrea Vachon (John), Bonnie Rust (Duane), and Susannah Bonner (Scott). He also leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren and his beloved sister, Anne Marie Ring of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Philip was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Ellen Ring, who were born and raised in Ireland; and by his brothers, Michael and Richard Ring.
Philip served in the U.S. Army Reserves in New York State in the mid to late 1950s. He graduated from St. John's University in 1962.
After a long career with N.W. Johnsen & Co. in Manhattan, Philip retired in December, 1999. He and Nancy moved to Aiken, SC in September 2001, having previously resided in Pearl River, New York and Brooklyn, NY.
Since arriving in Aiken, Philip became an active and devoted member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. He served as President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for six years and was a Stephen Minister and a member of Cursillo. Together, Philip and Nancy served as a team couple for Marriage Encounter and served as marriage mentors for engaged couples. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
In his leisure time, Philip was an avid tennis player and enjoyed long walks. He was an enthusiastic reader of novels and non-fiction works. Phil also had a passion for watching college football and basketball games on television. He and Nancy traveled extensively, visiting five continents and creating treasured memories together. His love of travel was passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Above all, Philip's greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to travel to their graduations, make Sacraments, attend sporting events, and celebrate birthdays. They were truly his special treasures.
He will be remembered for his deep faith, loving heart, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 30, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 138 Fairfield St., SE, Aiken, SC 29801, followed by inurnment in the church Columbarium. A reception will follow in Mother Theresa Hall.
