AIKEN, SC – Mr. Michael Tackebury, 79, beloved husband of Marjorie Ann Tackebury, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024. He was at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Flint, MI, Michael was the son of the late Adrian and Henrietta Remer Tackebury. Mike, the youngest of ten siblings, grew up in Montrose, MI where he met his wife, Margie. They started “going steady” in 1962 after he left a basket of fresh apples he picked from the local orchard where he worked as a teenager on their front porch. The couple married a year later on September 7, 1963, thus beginning their beautiful 61-year marriage. Mike and Margie shared a life of adventure: traveling often, founding and owning a successful insurance agency, and raising a close-knit family.
Mike was a devoted man of faith, serving Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gladwin, MI, for many years as the President of the Congregation and Chair of the Stewardship committee. In Aiken, he was a proud member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
He loved reading and learning– he was an expert on the Civil War, especially the topic of the Union Army. He was also an avid woodworker, loved cowboy movies and cars, and telling stories. Mike had a story for every occasion, and he loved sharing his tales and the wisdom he earned throughout his full life with all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a well of advice, a listening ear, and an incredible support– quick to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.
Mike was a treasured husband, father, papa, brother, and friend who will be celebrated and missed by many.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, two children Michael Charles Tackebury, Shorewood, IL, Brenda Ann (Kris) Keith, Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Ryan (Andra) Keith, Becca (Alex) Hartsell, Evan (Ruthie) Keith, Michael Tackebury, Tora Tackebury, Kora Tackebury, Matthew Tackebury, Tommy Tackebury, Angie Tackebury, Abby Tackebury; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Henrietta “Sue” Hicks, Flushing, MI, brother, Thomas (Lois) Tackebury, South Lyon, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by seven siblings.
