Martin "Marty" Eric Miller

July 17, 1955 — April 20, 2025

Aiken, SC

After battling long illnesses, Martin “Marty” Eric Miller was called to his Eternal Home early on Resurrection Sunday, April 20, 2025, in Aiken, South Carolina. His Celebration of Life will be Sunday, May 18th at 2 pm at Lakes Community Church in Newman Lake, Washington where he attended church near his Liberty Lake home for several years.

Born to William and Dorothy Miller on July 17, 1955, he was raised with his brother, Gary, and sister, Jo. He lived most of his life in the Spokane, WA area. He married Laura Glenn on October 8, 2011 in Yakima. They made their home in Spokane Valley, in Marty’s childhood home, and later moved to Liberty Lake, WA. He loved creating beautiful flower gardens and always planted red geraniums to honor his mother.

Marty developed his talents as an artist and musician. His early career was in music entertainment, then restaurant management. Realizing he needed a more stable career, he attended Eastern Washington University receiving a master’s degree in early childhood education. Marty spent 25 years as an elementary school educator and claims that he never went beyond the second grade. He made up songs and played guitar for his students and used his cartooning talents daily in the classroom. His students will always remember “The Mistake Fairy Chronicles.” He will be remembered for his wit and dry sense of humor.

His adult life took a turn to new horizons when he developed a personal relationship with Jesus. Using his musical talents for the Lord, he wrote over 100 worship songs, served on various worship teams, became a worship leader at Indian Trails Church in Spokane, and recorded five CDs.

He and Laura retired in 2020, and they wanted to see a different part of the country. They moved to their new home in Aiken, South Carolina, in September 2024, arriving just before Hurricane Helene swept through—a grand welcome to southern living. They were just beginning to explore new territories when his illnesses gradually increased, leading to his passing.

His death came in the wake of the passing of Laura’s mother, Jean Rudser, on Saturday, April 19th in Enumclaw, WA. Laura can only imagine that her Mom gave Marty her signature “pat on the patootie” on their way to the Heavenly Gates.

Marty is survived by his wife, Laura; children, Eric (Jenna) Miller, Erin (Doug) Alfson, Nathan (Christine) Miller, Kensington (London) Miller; grandchildren Micah (in Heaven), Owen, Amelia, Peyton, Ava, Selah, Caleb, Samantha, Kinsley, and Gunner; and step-children, Kirsten (Scott) Driskill, Jennifer Lucero, Rachel Jordan; and step-grandchildren Breanna, Ian, Samantha, Rylan and Leila.

Marty had a heart for children in need and sponsored several boys through Compassion International. In lieu of flowers, he would encourage you to donate or sponsor a child and change a life through Compassion.
