Martin William Gunter

AIKEN, SC - Mr. Martin William Gunter, 72, beloved husband of Jean Gunter passed away, Saturday, May 28, 2022. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Clear Water Branch Baptist Church with The Rev. Mike Catoe officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Anthony Gunter, Melvin Gunter, Jackie Stone, Jimmy Green, Clifford Moore and Tony Day. Honorary pallbearers will be current and past Deacons of the church. A lifelong resident of Aiken, Mr. Gunter was the son of the late Tracy and Eula Smith Gunter. He spent his career working for Metso Paper, Inc. He and his wife of 52 years were members of Clear Water Branch Baptist Church. He was a dedicated member of the church his whole life. He served as a deacon and was recently awarded a plaque for 31 years of maintenance service to the church. Mr. Gunter loved to go fishing and travel to the beach with his family. He and Jean always loved to go camping. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife Jean, Mr. Gunter is survived by his son, Anthony Martin (Tandji) Gunter, Aiken; grandchildren, Emily (Jevon) Garcia, Tracy Gunter, Elizabeth Gunter, Caroline Gunter; sisters, Linda (Jimmy) Green, Lillian (Max) Rees-Bowser both of Aiken; brother, Melvin (Sherri) Gunter, Aiken and a daughter-in-law, Melanie Mosley. He was preceded in death by his son, Al Gunter and a sister Martha Bush. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Clear Water Branch Baptist Church, 235 Crooked Creek Rd., Aiken, SC 29805.
