Mark John Tormay

January 21, 1947 — February 14, 2022

AIKEN, SC - The family of Mark John Tormay announces his passing on February 14th, 2022.

Born on January 21, 1947, in Hazleton, PA, to Vincent Tormay and Lucille (Drumheller) Tormay, he attended St. Gabriel's High School and earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from King's College.  His career as a CPA spanned multiple decades for organizations in technology and government contracting.

He married Marsha Bill of Pittsburg, PA, in 1974 with whom he shared 42 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2017.  They raised two children in Manassas, VA, Matthew Tormay of State College, PA, and Bethany Effgen of Alexandria, VA, who survive him.

A devout Catholic, he generously contributed his time and energy to the Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent Depaul in supporting their outreach programs for the less fortunate.  He also applied his professional skills by doing tax preparation for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) every year since his retirement.

Fiercely proud of his Irish heritage, he traveled to Ireland on multiple occasions to meet and spend time with newly discovered distant relatives.  He took great enjoyment in spending time with friends on the golf course and around the poker table. He fervently supported the US Men's National Team and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

In addition to his two children, he is survived by his grandchildren Cameron Vincent Effgen and Bryn Ida Effgen, and his four sisters, Margaret (Peggy) Slapcinsky, Lucille Donlin, Denise Kasper, and Mary Jo Rostocki.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to St. Vincent Depaul or the Knights of Columbus to support their ongoing community outreach efforts.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 18th from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.  A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated Saturday afternoon, February 19th at 1 o'clock at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on Fairfield St. followed by the interment in the columbarium.
