Mark Harris Smith, Jr.

November 14, 1942 — September 17, 2022

AIKEN, SC - MARK HARRIS SMITH, JR., born in Brunswick, Georgia on November 14, 1942, was the son of Mark Harris Smith, Sr. and Alice Kurtz Smith of Brunswick, Georgia.  He is survived by his wife Dale Smith of Aiken; children Tim Smith (Veronica) and Amy Davis (Scott) of Mt. Pleasant and Andrew Cox (Emily) of Aiken; sisters Ruthie Williams of Savannah, Georgia and Nancy Kirk (Arnold) of Lancaster, SC; brothers Charles Smith (Beth) of Annandale, Virginia, Michael Smith (Lynda) of Brunswick, Georgia, David Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, Clifford Smith (Norma) of York, SC and Robert Smith (Carol) of Huntersville, NC; and seven grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents and his former wife Marie Fussell Smith.

Mr. Smith was a geologist and was Plant Manager of Dixie Clay Company in Bath, SC for 23 years.  He then worked as a Professional Engineer at the Savannah River Site in Aiken until his retirement in 2012.  He was a master carpenter, a little league baseball coach, a member of Toastmasters and Sertoma and served his county in the Air Force.  A gifted artist, he was a member of the Aiken Artist Guild and enjoyed sharing his talents with family and friends.

A University of Georgia graduate.  Mr. Smith was an ardent lifelong Bulldog fan.

He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Newberry and attended St. John’s United Methodist Church of Aiken.

Mr. Smith was a loving father, grandfather, brother and husband.

No formal services will be held.
