AIKEN, SC – Marie Pickens Goodlett entered into rest Thursday, September 25, 2025, at her residence. A private internment ceremony will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 12 noon at Southlawn Cemetery with Reverend Grayson “Butch” Blackwell officiating. A public service and reception will follow at St. John’s Methodist Church on Newberry Street at 1 PM.
A native of Greenville, SC, Marie was the daughter of Lewis Holbert Pickens and Sara Graves Pickens. She married the love of her life, Claude Goodlett in 1954.
Survivors include three children; CDR Clark B. Goodlett USNR-R of Charleston, Mark P. Goodlett of Aiken, Lisa M. Goodlett of Isle of Palms, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by a brother, Lewis Holbert Pickens of Mt. Pleasant, SC and a sister, Esther Jones of Nacogdoches, Texas.
Marie attained her license as a Registered Nurse from the School of Nursing at Greenville General Hospital/Furman University. She was given the faculty award in Nursing in 1955. Her legacy extends far beyond her professional achievements; it is defined by her spirit of kindness and care.
She was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church and served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and Hitchcock Hospice.
Her life was firmly anchored in and guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Marie enjoyed gardening and was a lifetime member of the Garden Club of SC, the National Council of State Garden Clubs and was a former member of the Cereus Gardeners Garden Club. There is a camellia in the International Camellia Register named Marie Goodlett in her honor.
