Margaret A. Whitehurst

September 16, 1927 — December 3, 2021

AIKEN, SC – MARGARET A. WHITEHURST, 94, widow of James W. “Jim” Whitehurst, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021 at her residence.

A native of Ft. Meade, FL, Peggy was a daughter of the late Grover and Esthese Lyon Altman.  She moved to Aiken in 1964 upon her husband’s retirement from the Navy.  She was an active member of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church, a devoted mother and wife and a longtime employee of Farmers & Merchants Bank then C & S Bank and finally Bank of America.

Survivors include two daughters, Pat Holley (Tom), Cynthia Gray (Thomas), all of Aiken; five grandchildren, Tricia Holley, Tommy Holley (Tiffany), Elizabeth Anderson (Brian), Shannon Strang (Lewis), James Gray; great-grandchildren, Lane Holley, Will Holley, Drew Holley, Holley Anderson, Perry Anderson, J. T. Markel, Katelynn Eagel, Luke Strang; sisters-in-law, Margie Altman, Betty Altman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Durrance, her second husband, James W. “Jim” Whitehurst; her sister, Louise Day (Alan), brothers, Royce Altman, Robert Altman, Billy Altman.

A graveside service will be held Monday morning, December 6th at 11 o’clock in Southlawn Cemetery with The Rev. John Carrol officiating.
