Morris Harvey “M.H. Jack” Bowles, 96, beloved husband of Jerrie D. Bowles, passed away peacefully at 11:18 PM Sunday, August 3, 2025, in his home with his loving wife by his side.
A native of Pineyview, West Virginia, Jack was the son of the late William Franklin and Mary Susan Adkins Bowles. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ishmael, Leslie, Joe, and Billy.
He served his country honorably as a veteran of the United States Air Force, was a member of the American Legion Post 63, and a devoted member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.
Jack left the coal mines of West Virginia in 1953 to move to Aiken, SC, to pursue a career with DuPont at the Savannah River Site. He worked in the maintenance department and retired as a safety engineer April of 1989, at the age of 62, to follow his lifelong love and passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was known among his family and friends for sharing the best homegrown tomatoes.
Jack lived each day to the fullest with much anticipation of the adventures awaiting him that he would experience with each encounter with nature. The heart of his legacy that he leaves behind, to all fortunate enough to have crossed his path in life, will be remembered by the fearless example he set with much ambition, determination, persistence, and focus. He was always so grateful for one more time to experience his love and passion for the great outdoors with family and friends. He was a true avid sportsman.
Jack is survived by his loving, devoted wife and fishing partner, Jerrie, and the blended family they shared together: sons, Jack Randall Bowles (Deborah) and Norman David Bowles (Tracey); daughter, Charlotte Nappi (George); grandchildren, Dustin J. Bowles, Lauren, Karla, Ginger, Carolyn, Evan; special nephew and niece, William “Bucky” Bowles and Bonnie Worley and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by Jerrie’s beloved family: son, Ben Fitzgerald; daughter, Kim Cain (Raymon); grandsons, Benjamin Cain (Jacky) and Dustin Cain (Kelley), and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, August 9th, beginning at 1 o’clock at Solid Rock Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 o’clock with their pastor, Dewayne Anderson, officiating. Special music will be performed by Ben Fitzgerald singing Country Roads. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley, SC. Pallbearers will be Dustin Bowles, William “Bucky” Bowles, Raymon Cain, Benjamin Cain, Dustin Cain, and Rick Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Solid Rock Baptist Church.

(https://www.covelbaptistfoodpantry.org/) This mission outreach feeds the hungry and clothes the poorest of the poor through the love of Jesus Christ in the coal fields of West Virginia, where Jack grew up.
