AIKEN, SC - Lynn Close Kramp, born Lynn Morton Tate, died peacefully in her home in Aiken, SC, August Eighth, 2017 at the age of 67, surrounded by family and close friends. Lynn is survived by her husband, Joseph Kramp, and daughters, Katherine Dickinson Goldman (nee Close) and Carolyn Chapman McKenzie-Bush (nee Close) (Joe Bush). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Connor Tate McKenzie, Margaret Chapman Bush, Darcy Grace Bush, Gavin Francis Bush, and Samantha Tate Goldman as well as her nieces, Becky Bacchus, Betsy Bardwell, and her nephews, Douglas Thatcher and Matthew Thatcher. She is preceded in death by her sister, Ann Tate Thatcher. Lynn was born on Nov. 25, 1949 in Chicago, IL to Irving Dickinson Tate and Frances Tate (nee Morton) of Wayne, IL. An accomplished equestrian, Lynn began riding at the age of three. She was one of the first members of The Wayne-DuPage Hunt Pony Club, achieving the “B” qualification before heading off to school. She graduated from Ferry Hall High School in Lake Forest, IL, and attended William Woods College in Fulton, MO. where she was on the senior riding team. After college, Lynn married George Burton Close from St. Louis, MO. They moved to St. Charles, IL where they raised their family. She served as president of the St. Charles Mothers Club and was active in the community. When her children were older, Lynn became a paralegal and resumed her equestrian activities. She competed in adult amateur competitions. Lynn married Joseph Kramp in 1990 and moved to San Juan Capistrano, Calif., where she remained active in community affairs and volunteering. Lynn moved to Aiken, SC in 2005 where she enjoyed all the equine activities along with her treasured horse Hemingway, nicknamed Ernie. Lynn originated the Memory Ride Horse Show in 2012, which became an annual event held in September benefitting the American Alzheimer's Association. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday August 12th, at 11 a.m., at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 E Pine Log Rd, Aiken, SC 29803, with a reception to follow at Green Boundary Club,780 Whiskey Rd, Aiken, SC 29801 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the South Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 3223 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, SC 29169.
