Obituary

Her glowing personality brought joy to all who met her.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lynn Johnson Bristol, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who died on June 22, 2026. Born on December 15, 1951 in Hartford Connecticut. Lynn built a life full of love, family, and faith in Avon Connecticut where she raised her two children, Thomas Bristol and Kelly Bristol. She cherished her time with family and friends at her "Happy Place" at Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. She spent the last fifteen years of her life continuing friendships and building new ones in Cedar Creek - Aiken, South Carolina.

She gave generously to all around her and her glowing personality brought joy to all who met her. She was a loving mother and an adoring grandmother. Known as MorMor to her grandchildren and many others, she loved her Swedish heritage and loved most to pass it on through her cooking and baking. She taught that a life filled with faith, family, food, laughter, and love is a life well lived! Her smile, love, kindness and generous spirit will forever remain an illuminating presence for all who were blessed to know her.

Lynn is survived by her son Thom, his wife Melissa and their four children (Ewan, Leighton, Larsson, and Thyra); her daughter Kelly, and her twin sons (Sam and Dean); her sister Laurie (Art) Mercuri and their children Jeremy (Jennifer) Mercuri and Melissa Mercuri; her sister-in-law Linda (Paul) Moeller, and their daughter Susanne (Ted) Mertens; brother-in-law Peter (Theresa) Bristol; and Jane "Grammie" Bristol (101), and her countless friends. Our special thanks to her close friend and neighbor Peter Fabian for his support and companionship to the end.

She was preceded in death by her husband Loren Bristol, father John Johnson, and mother Ethyl Johnson.

A service will be held to celebrate her life Friday afternoon, July 10th at 2 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home in Aiken SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be directed to Save the Strays Dog Rescue (save the strays.rescuegroups.org) or to Calumet Lutheran Ministries (calumet.org).

MorMor’s Life Lessons

MorMor’s Life Lessons:

  1. How to write a personal note that makes someone feel seen and loved.
  2. How to love deeply, fiercely, and without keeping score… unless it was a game of Five Crowns.
  3. How to dance like no one is watching.
  4. How to show up for the people who matter… with a fresh loaf of banana or pumpkin bread in hand.
  5. How small acts of kindness can leave lasting impressions.
  6. How to find strength when life feels impossible.
  7. How to laugh through tears and celebrate life’s little moments.
  8. How to make a house feel like home… and that one rooster is never enough.
  9. How friends and strangers alike should feel welcome in your home and be greeted with a cup of coffee… or a glass of wine, depending on the circumstances, and not so much the time of day.
  10. How packing outfits in Ziplock bags somehow made traveling feel organized, intentional, and a little more fun.
  11. How a trip to the beach house, our “Happy Place,” could make everything feel a little lighter and everyone feel a little closer.
  12. How a walk and talk by the river can help untangle even the most difficult conversations.
  13. How to be a better person and take the high road, even when it’s not the easiest path.
  14. How to give grace to others and to yourself.
  15. How to keep going, even on the hardest days.
  16. How to leave the world a little better than she found it.
  17. How to give everything and expect nothing.
  18. How faith in Jesus can carry you through anything.

Most of all, she taught that a life filled with faith, family, laughter, and love is a life well lived.

Moms teach us everything, not always through words, but through the way they love, live, and forever leave their mark on our hearts.

We love you to the moon and back MorMor.
