JAMES LYNN ANDERSON, 73, beloved husband of Carole Andes Anderson, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 26, 2025, in his home.
A native of Maryville, TN, Lynn was a son of the late Lonnie Lynn and Mary Ruth Gardner Anderson. He was educated in Blount County, Tennessee, graduating from Alcoa High School. He received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
Lynn had a distinguished career in nuclear security, initially working at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Lynn transferred to the Nevada Test Site in 1991. In 2000 he took a job in Aiken, SC, so he and his family could be closer to relatives in East Tennessee. He continued his work at the Savannah River Site, ultimately retiring as a radiation safety officer from Centerra in 2019.
In his leisure time, Lynn was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards. He cheered for the Tennessee Volunteers every Saturday during football season. He enjoyed watching his favorite TV show “Wheel of Fortune”, which he was excellent at, frequently solving puzzles early. He kept his mind active by solving the newspaper's crossword and word jumble puzzles every morning. A devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aiken, Lynn's faith was an important part of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Carole; two daughters, Jessica Frank, Maryville, TN, Erica Gabbidon, Las Vegas, NV; his son, Ryan Anderson (Michelle), Savannah, GA; six grandchildren, Neveah and Kianna Gabbidon, Elijah and Isayah Prator, Caden and Taylor Frank. Lynn is also survived by his brother, Alan Anderson (Brenda), Maryville, TN and brother-in-law, Max Hearon, Maryville, TN. In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by his sister, Anita Hearon.
Private services for the family will be held in Maryville, TN.
