LORETTA “JEAN” JORDAN, 93, of Aiken, SC passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022. She was born in Mulberry Grove, IL on May 8, 1928 to parents Hazel and Ivan Merrill. Jean, her brother and parents later moved to East St. Louis IL where she eventually attended East St. Louis Senior High and the local community college. Following graduation, Jean began work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in St. Louis, MO. After a few years there she met the love of her life, Bill Jordan, the handsome young executive who caught her eye, and she caught his as well. They later married in Riverside, CA. After a few years there they moved back to the Midwest to be close to family and settled in Belleville, IL. where they raised four children. Throughout her lifetime, Jean had many talents and passions. She was a fabulous cook, wonderful seamstress, beautiful needlepointer, great bridge player and a gracious hostess. She was very involved in her children’s school activities, her church, community and various organizations. She was also a proud 55 year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Jean and Bill would eventually retire to Hilton Head Island, SC. There they made many great friends and memories. The charming town of Aiken would become their final destination where Woodside Plantation would be home. Jean is predeceased by her parents, survived by her husband William “Bill” of 70 years, Her sons Bill, (Susan) of Carmel, CA; Jim (Beth) of Putney, VT; Doug, (Kate) of St.Louis, MO; and daughter Nancy, (Greg) of Little Rock, AR; brother Dave, (Ruth) of Kenai, AK; four grandchildren, two nephews and a niece. The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Melissa and Della for their devotion and hard work in caring for Jean and to the Daybreak Services team. Our lovely Jean will be remembered for her beauty, style, warm personality and generosity. Burial will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, First Presbyterian Church of Aiken, the Aiken SPCA, or a charity of your choice.
