Linda Hart Lucas, 76, of Aiken, South Carolina, went to rest on December 21, 2025, following ongoing illnesses. She was born on September 25, 1949, in Port Royal, South Carolina, to Richard Hart and Lila Ruth Sullivan Hart of Hickory, North Carolina, Linda lived a life rooted in faith, service and compassion. She was truly a good and faithful servant, whose legacy will continue to touch all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Aiken High School, Class of 1967, Linda went on to graduate from the Medical College of Georgia with a degree as a Radiology Technician. She worked at various hospitals in the CSRA including the old Aiken Hospital before moving to Houston, TX where she worked at Texas Children's Hospital and MD Anderson. Upon returning to Aiken, she began a career at the Savannah River Site (SRS), where her dedication and work ethic quickly became evident. Her career later evolved into community relations, where her heart for people truly flourished.
Linda was hired by Robbie Yarborough to work for Especially Seniors, a role that became her calling. In 2010, Chad and Chrissa Matthews opened Daybreak Adult Care Services where they leaned into her knowledge with in-home care and gave her the opportunity to be a large part of helping to develop Daybreak’s business model that is still used today. Linda devoted her life to supporting families and individuals affected by dementia. She was the co-founder of the first Alzheimer's Support Group, and she served on the committee for the “Walk to End Alzheimer's” for many years. Linda worked tirelessly to support efforts in Aiken, and she served as a Family Educator and Certified Dementia Care Specialist. Linda was appointed to serve on the City of Aiken’s Senior Commission where she conducted educational seminars that focused on helping families navigate the difficult decisions that occur when a person suffers with dementia. Working closely with the Alzheimer's Association, Linda became a champion for helping people living with dementia to have dignity and respect while facing dementia, offering education, advocacy, and compassion to countless families. Linda also served as former member of the Aiken Jaycees and she was on the board for the Western Carolina State Fair Foundation.
Linda was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Millbrook Baptist Church, where she had worshiped since the 1950s. Her faith guided her life and her service to others. Known as a beacon of light, Linda had an infectious personality and a sense of humor that could light up any room. She was a "professional shopper," a loving caregiver, the neighborhood mom and a friend to everyone she met. She deeply loved traveling with her husband and sons; she treasured time spent with her family. Linda loved her girl’s night out and the trips with her lifelong friends and girlfriends. Linda’s most cherished moments were the time she spent with her three grandchildren.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Bruce Patrick Hart and Daniel Robert Hart, both of Aiken, South Carolina. She is survived by her beloved husband, Warren Carroll Lucas of Aiken, South Carolina; her sons, Keith Douglas Lucas of Aiken, South Carolina, and Kevin Daniel Lucas (wife Catherine Smith Lucas) of Aiken, South Carolina; her cherished grandchildren, Lillian McKenzie Lucas and Mills Sullivan Lucas of Estill, South Carolina, and Emerson Carroll Lucas of Aiken, South Carolina; and her brother, Michael Hart (wife Jeannie Verenes Hart) of Aiken, South Carolina.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Avenue, Aiken, South Carolina. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Millbrook Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery.
