Larry Gene Wardlow left this earth after a battle with cancer. A fighter till the end, he passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Aiken Regional Medical Center at the age of 78.

He grew up in Santa Anna, Texas. He is predeceased by his parents, Gladys and L.K Wardlow and survived by his wife Shela and siblings Mary Ann Pape (Orvel), Bobby Wardlow, Tommy Wardlow (Marcia) and Bradley Wardlow (Michelle).

He served 23 years in the Air Force with the majority of that working as a physician assistant. He spent 18 months serving in the Vietnam conflict receiving several accommodation medals. He later earned a Masters in public health and spent 12 years working at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the medical department. After moving to Aiken, he worked part time at Doctors Hospital and the Savannah River Site.

During the 54 years of marriage, they especially enjoyed hiking in the national parks. He was also an avid tennis player.

Larry requested a cremation, and his family will invite friends and family to scatter his ashes in the places that were meaningful.

Celebration of life service will be held in Texas and Minnesota. We are grateful for the support and love we have received.
