Keenan Ezzell Kizer

June 6, 1942 — May 31, 2022

AIKEN, SC - Keenan Ezzell Kizer, 79, widow of Rudy Kizer, died Tuesday, May 31, 2022 in Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House, Seneca, SC

     She was born in 1942 and raised in Lancaster, SC, Keenan was a daughter of the late Mack and Rebecca McManus Ezzell. She attended the public schools.  At Lancaster Senior High School she was a cheerleader and a proud member of the 1959 Girl’s State Championship basketball team, “the Mighty Mites”.

     After graduating in 1960, she attended and graduated from Winthrop College in 1964 with a B.S. degree in Physical Education.  While at Winthrop she played on the first interscholastic basketball team.  This team was precursor to the AIAW Women’s sports program.

     She married Rudy Kizer in 1964.  With her husband’s work and military service, they moved to a number of communities on the East Coast and upper Mid-West.

     Keenan was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of St. John’s UMC in Aiken where she was a member of numerous Bible Studies, Alter Guild and Joseph’s Coat.

     She was a past member of the Aiken Women’s Heart board and was later an associate member.

     She enjoyed playing golf at Palmetto Golf Club and served as chairperson of the Ladies Golf Association on several occasions.  She was a needle worker and swimmer. Two of her most enjoyable treats were Clemson football and attending the Masters.

     She is survived by her son, Rudy III of Kokomo, In; daughter, Shannon Cobb (Tripp), Easley, SC grandsons George IV and Mack Cobb of Easley, SC and sister Brenda Hammond of Lancaster, SC; 4 nieces and nephews and 8 great nieces and nephews.

     A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11th at 3 pm at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken.
