On Thursday, April 16, 2026, Joseph “Joe” David Lojewski, 97, beloved husband of the late Mayrant Alexander Lojewski, passed away peacefully at his home.

Joe was born and raised in Utica, New York, the youngest of four siblings, and was the son of the late Joseph and Aniela Lojewski. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.

Following graduation, Joe began his career with DuPont de Nemours, Inc. (“DuPont”). Early in his career, he was stationed at the Savannah River Plant. While living in Aiken, South Carolina, he met Mayrant, who was working at Farmers and Merchants Bank, and they were married there in 1957. They shared 66 wonderful years of marriage until Mayrant’s passing in February 2023.

Throughout Joe’s career with DuPont, he and Mayrant lived in Wilmington, Delaware; Tennessee; California; Maryland; and Ohio, where Joe worked in pigment operations. Upon his retirement in 1986, they moved back to Aiken from Wilmington, Delaware, eventually settling in the home they built in Woodside Plantation. There, they both enjoyed gardening, and Joe especially loved playing golf with his regular golf crew.

Joe and Mayrant were longtime members of the Episcopal Church of the Ridge in Trenton, South Carolina.

Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred and Henry Lojewski, and his sister, Sophia Glista. He was also preceded in death by Mayrant’s siblings, Mary Dean Williamson, David L. Alexander Jr., and William “Bill” R. Alexander.

Though Joe and Mayrant had no children of their own, they deeply cherished the children of their siblings as if they were their own, including many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews.

The children of Joe’s siblings include Kevin Lojewski (Deborah), Kathy Benson, Barbara Halko (Paul), Alfred Lojewski (Fran), and the late Bruce Lojewski (Charlene).

The children of Mayrant’s brother and sister include Stan Williamson (Emma Joyce), Mary Macmillan (Michael), David Williamson (Linda), Richard Alexander (Stella), Amelia A. Skipper (Dock), David L. Alexander (Joan), and Pam Augspurger (Mark).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ridge, P.O. Box 206, Trenton, SC 29847.

Service arrangements will be announced by SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC
