AIKEN - Mr. John Gordon “Jack” Campbell, 90, loving husband of Phyllis Campbell, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at his residence. A memorial service with military honors will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the main Cumberland Village building in the 1835 Room, with The Rev. Bob Clyburn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Mr. Campbell was born in Chicago, IL, to the late James Campbell, Jr. and Dorothy Wilkinson Campbell. He had been a resident of Aiken since 1951 and owned Jack’s Paint and Wallcovering. A long-time Aikenite, Jack was active in the Aiken Jaycees, Lions Club and Senior Men. Jack loved the water and boating, demonstrated by his many years in the Savannah River Power Squadron, where he served twice as Commander. In retirement, for fun, Jack worked in the tasting room of the former Montmorenci Vineyards where he was recognized as the South Carolina Hospitality Employee of the Year. Mr. Campbell was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Campbell is survived by his daughter, Susan-Lea (Charles) Skuhr, Oro Valley, AZ, sons; Barry Stuart (Linda) Campbell, Aiken, James Lewis (Debra) Campbell, Jacksonville Beach, FL; five grandsons, Nathan (Margaret) Campbell, James Campbell, Courtney Campbell, Clay Campbell, John Campbell; three great-grandchildren, Scott Campbell, Drew Campbell, Chloe Campbell; two sisters, Baynham (Stan) Elson, Grand Island, NY, Anne Williams, Houston, TX and a brother, Stuart Campbell of Pinehurst, NC.
