Jane Collins Mizell

AIKEN, SC – JANE COLLINS MIZELL, 79, beloved wife of Raymond W. Mizell, died Friday, July 21, 2017 at Shadow Oaks. A native of St. George, SC, Mrs. Mizell was a daughter of the late Colie and Irma Hightower Collins. Mrs. Mizell began her teaching career in Summerville, South Carolina. She then went on to teach in Richmond, Virginia before retiring from a 25 year career in early childhood education in the Aiken County public school district. She was a passionate Sunday school teacher, especially at Cornerstone Baptist Church (Aiken South Carolina). She was a member of Aiken’s First Baptist Church.   In her youth she was actively involved in the youth ministries of Memorial Baptist Church (St. George, SC). It was in the choir of that church where she met her husband of 56 years. Survivors, in addition to her husband Raymond, include two daughters, Amy Mizell Smith (Steve), Aiken, Laura Mizell Turner (Alan), Williston; five grandchildren, Sibylle Hope Smith, Jon Mark Smith, Bethany Smith Rodriguez (Fernando), Shane Wesley Turner and Kaitlyn Melissa Turner. The family will receive friends Saturday evening July 22nd from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral will be Sunday afternoon, July 23rd at 2 o’clock at the funeral home with The Rev. Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Interment will follow at 5 o’clock in St. George Cemetery, St. George, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Rotary Club of Aiken’s Alzheimer’s Program, P.O.
