James Barrett Sorrell

AIKEN, SC – JAMES BARRETT SORRELL, 65, beloved husband of Donna Dixon Sorrell, died Friday, July 24, 2020 at his residence.

     A native of Kenton County, KY, James was a son of the late Preston Lloyd and Annie Van Landing Sorrell.  He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 19 and served for twenty-two and a half years, retiring as Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1993.  He moved to Aiken in 1993 and worked as a nuclear engineer at the Savannah River Site until retiring in 2014.

     Surviving, in addition to his wife Donna, are his children, Rachel Ream (Jason), Omaha, NE, James Sorrell (Kris), Minneapolis, MD, Paul Sorrell (Emma), Honolulu, HI, David Carter (Angie), Harlem, GA, Wayne Williamson (Shannon), Grovetown, GA, Michelle Johnson (Joseph), Graniteville, SC; fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Knochelman (Alan), Kentucky; four brothers, Paul Sorrell (Tanya), Kentucky, Mark Sorrell (Theresa), Ohio, P. L. Sorrell (Kathleen), Alabama, Adam Sorrell, Alabama.

     The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, July 31^st beginning at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2 o’clock.  Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy Honor Guard.  The service will be livestreamed on the Shellhouse – Rivers Facebook page at (https://www.facebook.com/srfhandsfh).
