Aiken

AIKEN, SC - James Harold Saine passed away on April 15, 2024, leaving behind a lifetime of love, kindness, and service to others. Born April 24, 1945, in Greenwood, South Carolina and carrying from that day a love of God, Country, and family that most can only aspire too.

Jim was the son of LTC (RET) Harold and Ruth Saine. Jim was married to his loving wife Suzanne McKinley for 56 years starting their journey together on a blind date shortly before Jim graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in the spring of 1967. Together Jim and Suzanne embraced life’s joys and challenges as a loving Christian couple raising four children and navigating 25 years of Army life before settling in Aiken, South Carolina in 1992. Jim’s selfless devotion to others extended into all aspects of his life allowing him to touch the lives of so many while in the Army, his various church families, in his classrooms, and during his volunteer work at numerous service organizations. Jim was a man of faith, high character, integrity, honor, humility, patience, and an unmatched role model for all who met him but most of all for his family, especially his four children and eight grandchildren who will miss his wise words and everlasting love forever. Jim could often be found doing the things he loved whether running the trails of Hitchcock Woods, fishing quiet spots, tending his garden or flowers, sharing God’s word at church, or going everywhere with his dogs.

Jim’s passing leaves a black spot in the hearts of all who knew him but also a reminder of how one person can do so much for so many. His memory will always bring memories of happiness and adventure to his wife Suzanne, his sons Sam, Charlie, and Ben and their respective wives Stephanie, Marissa, and Laura, his daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Mitchell Nimmich, as well as his grandchildren Joy, Victoria, Abigail, Lauren, Joshua, Caleb, Lydia, and Theodore. He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his brother John Saine and his sister Carolyn Yost.

Let us remember Jim as a man of the highest honor and love of God, unwavering dedication to his family, a Soldier, an educator, an accomplished gardener, a dog lover, and a fisherman who made a lasting impact on the lives of so many. In his honor, may we all seek to live a life devoted to others, our families, and being one who always takes the harder right rather than the easier wrong all while sharing a love of life and God’s unending grace.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at NewSpring Church of Aiken, South Carolina on May 11th from 12pm to 1pm.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers you donate to one of Jim’s favorite ministries:

Kairos Prison Ministry of South Carolina (https://www.kairosofsouthcarolina.org/index.html)

Samaritans Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org/)

Remember our life is but a dash so let our dashes count. Jim sure did!
