James S. Parrish, Sr.

NEW ELLENTON, SC – JAMES S. PARRISH, SR., 89, beloved husband of Louise Jones Parrish, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 15, 2023 in Aiken Regional Medical Centers, surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Dearing, GA, James was a son of the late Claude and Nellie Gay Parrish.  He went to work at the Savannah River Plant in the early 1950’s.  He was drafted into the Army in 1956 and returned to SRP in 1958.  He retired from Westinghouse SRS as a Lab Manager in 1993.  James was a longtime faithful member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School and Training Union teacher.  He was a former coach and umpire with New Ellenton Youth Sports.  He was a great family man and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time outside, especially in his cabin in the woods.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 67 years, Louise are his son, J. Stanley Parrish, Jr. (Lynda), New Ellenton; daughter, Melinda P. Smoldt (Daryl), North Augusta; grandchildren, Wesley Parrish (Wendy), Michael Parrish (Kim), Cody Smoldt (Melissa), Caitlyn Smoldt (Fiancé T.J. Robinson); great-grandchildren, Jackson and Bryce Parrish; brother, Robert W. Parrish (Dolores), Stillmore, GA.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean Hillman.

The family will receive friends Friday, morning, April 21^st beginning at 10 o’clock at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church.  The funeral service will follow at 11 o’clock.  Interment will be in Southlawn Cemetery with Military Honors.
