James Michael Maxwell, of Aiken, passed away peacefully at his home following a brief illness. Jim was a 1960 graduate of Aiken High School and earned a degree in banking and finance from the University of South Carolina, and an advanced degree from the Graduate School of Banking at LSU.
An avid Gamecock fan, Jim loved cheering on the team at Williams-Brice Stadium. He enjoyed golf, traveling, and could dance a mean shag!
One of his proudest accomplishments was the hole in one he achieved on hole number 2 (148 yards) at the Kannapolis Country Club. Spending time with family and friends was a top priority, and he especially looked forward to Thursday nights at The Pub at Houndslake. As a gourmet chef, Jim wowed everyone with his signature dish: PB&J on whole wheat bread.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Jewel Maxwell and brothers Fred and Joe. He is survived by Paula, his wife of 58 years, daughter Stacey (Dottie) of Aiken, son Van of Charleston, and four grandchildren: Jay, Maggie, Sydney and Elliot.
A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare are greatly appreciated. WWW.letlovelive.org
The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the team from Trinity Hospice of Aiken for their guidance and support.
