James Albert Harden, Jr., beloved husband, father, brother, and cherished friend, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 23, 2026, following a short illness. Born on March 22, 1966, in Fairfax County, Virginia, Jimmy’s life was defined by his deep commitment to his family, his enduring friendships, and his unwavering positivity.

When Jimmy was eight years old, he moved with his family to Aiken, South Carolina, a place that would remain his cherished home for the rest of his life. He embraced Aiken fully, building lasting relationships and becoming a steadfast presence in the community.

Over the course of his life, Jimmy’s work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit were evident. As former co-owner of Aiken Muffler on Richland Avenue, he developed a reputation for integrity and dedication. He proudly owned and operated Greenscape for over 25 years, where his commitment to excellence was appreciated by all who worked with him.

Jimmy was known for his ever-present smile and his loving nature. He deeply valued his family and friends, always eager to lend a helping hand. His warmth and generosity touched many, and he maintained close relationships with friends from his high school days throughout his life. Jimmy’s love for music was well-known, often sharing stories of his time working sound and lights for a rock band—a testament to his passion and vibrant spirit.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 38 years, Susan Epps Harden. He was truly Susan’s everything. He is also survived by his beloved son, Devan James Harden; his loving sister, Kathy Harden (Matt); nephews Noah Moseley, Ryan Moseley, Matt Epps (Mariah), Drew Epps, Caleb Epps, and Jacob Epps; and his brothers-in-law, Michael Epps (Milly Ann) and Mark Epps (Monika). Jimmy will also be remembered fondly by his brother in Christ, Ron Moseley.

Jimmy now rests alongside those who went before him: his parents, Marianne Gregory Harden and James Albert Harden, Sr., and his beloved niece, Carrie Epps.

A memorial service honoring Jimmy’s life will be celebrated Saturday afternoon, August 29th at 3 o'clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home with his brother-in-law, Rev. Mark Epps, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Friends of the Animal Shelter (fotasaiken.org).
